How fast, RPM, etc?? Empty How fast, RPM, etc??

Here's the specs for my engine as far as I know. I bought it as is and all I've done to it is pull the heads and retorque them, reseal the add-ons, etc.
1776, 8-dowel crank, 110 cam?, stock heads, solid rockers, dual dell'orto 40s (no idea of jets, etc), 009, dual-tip glass-pack muffler. I don't remember what case I have. This is in a 67 bug, trans unknown but it is supposed to be "beefed up". It looks to have heavy-duty sideplates and it has a camber-compensator, no z-bars. I'm not sure if it is a 67 trans or not. My rear tires are 195/65/15s on 5.5 "BRMs" - 25" diameter, fronts are 155/60/15s, 22.3" diameter.

My question is: what is a good rpm to stay below. It seems to pull to about 4k rpm? It doesn't have much low end. What rpm should I be turning at say, 70-75 mph.

I've had one other 1776 years ago and a bunch of stock-ish 1641s, a 1679 and a slew of stock engines. I never got into the go-fast deal.

With a stock 437 62 trans and 205/65/15 rear and 165/15 front tires mine it turning

60 ~ 2950
65 ~ 3300
70 ~ 3500
75 ~ 3800
80 ~ 4150

Without knowing what gears you have will make it all a guessing game to figure out your RPM at speed. There is a way to tell what the gear ratios are with math and turning the tire a certin # of turns but I dont know how to do that. Best way to know is to check the speed with a gps and the RPM with a tach and go from there.

If it quits pulling at about 4k you need not turn it passed there, With the stock heads and rockers I had on there with 34 ICT's it pulled till passed 5k so maby you have a smaller cam than that.

Good luck getting it all sorted out.

I'll check out where it seems to fall off as soon as I get a chance. I'm thinking it may be a little higher than 4k? I know my speedo is off with the 155/60s but it didn't seem right with the 165s on there either. I'll get more accurate info to post asap. I have an Auto-Meter monster tach in it.
